Eric Kastango, RPh, MBA, FASHP

Eric has dedicated his life’s work to patient safety through better pharmacy sterile compounding.

He is an elected member of the USP Experts Committee for Sterile Compounding, providing him unique insight to the philosophy and intention behind USP Chapter <797>. Eric is a Fellow, American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), and a highly regarded expert who frequently consults with industry and clinicians. His many articles on sterile compounding have been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals. He has authored textbook chapters on sterile compounding and pharmacy practice, and is a sought-after speaker and trainer. His passion for education is reflected through the popular on-line pharmacy training that he offers through CriticalPoint and the STAR Center training program that he developed and led for the Baxa Corporation.

A life-long learner, Eric continues to expand his expertise, most recently by working towards licensure as a Nuclear Pharmacist. He prides himself on being accessible and approachable, and enjoys connecting with others interested in better patient safety through improved sterile compounding.

Since 1980, Eric has practiced pharmacy in hospital, community, and homecare settings in a variety of roles. He was previously Corporate Vice President of Pharmacy Services for Coram Healthcare and also managed a cGMP outsource manufacturing operation for Baxter Healthcare.

Patricia Kienle, RPh, MPA, FASHP

Patricia Kienle is the Director of Accreditation and Medication Safety for Cardinal Health Pharmacy Solutions.
She received her pharmacy degree from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, and a Masters in Public Administration from Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She completed an Executive Fellowship in Patient Safety from Virginia Commonwealth University and is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

Patricia has served on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Health- System Pharmacists and as President of the Pennsylvania Society of Hospital Pharmacists. She is a Fellow of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, named Pharmacist of the Year by the PSHP, and the recipient of the Distinguished Achievement Award in Hospital and Institutional Practice from the American Pharmaceutical Association Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management. She has served on the Pharmacotherapy Specialty Council of the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties, as the pharmacist member of the Hospital Professional and Technical Advisory Committee of the Joint Commission and on the Board of Governors of the National Patient Safety Foundation.

She is a frequent presenter to professional groups, with special interests in promoting medication safety, accreditation and regulatory issues in pharmacy and providing pharmacy services in integrated health systems. Patricia's CV (pdf)

Alice Weissfeld, Ph.D

Alice is President and CEO and Laboratory Director of msi, a company that performs environmental testing.  She earned her degree in microbiology at Rutgers University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Public Health and Medical Laboratory Microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine.

She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Medical Microbiology of the American Academy of Microbiology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology.  Speaking internationally on a variety of issues including laboratory regulations, quality control and environmental and clinical microbiology, her areas of expertise include virology, pathogenic bacteriology, mycobacteriology, administration and regulatory affairs.

Dr. Weissfeld is an author of the newly revised 12th edition of Bailey and Scott's Diagnostic Microbiology.  She is the past Chair of the committee on Profession al Affairs for Microbiology of the American Society for Microbiology and a former chair  of the Environmental Microbiology Laboratory Accreditation Committee of the American Industrial Hygiene Association. James T. Wagner

Jim Wagner has been an industry leader in the field of HEPA filtration and environmental control. He operates his consulting business, Controlled Environment Consulting, out of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and provides expertise in critical environments, with over 28 years experience evaluating facilities used for aseptic processing as well as laboratories and manufacturing facilities handling hazardous substances.

He is an elected member of the United States Pharmacopoeia Engineering Controls Committee (2005-2010). He is the current president of the Controlled Environment Testing Association, an industry organization currently developing recommended practices for aseptic compounding facilities, an isolator applications guide and compounding isolator testing.

He has served on many industry standards writing committees including; NSF Standard 49 for Class II Biological Safety Cabinets, and the Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology for various Cleanroom standards. Luci Power, RPh, MS

Luci Power is a prominent figure in the Hazardous Drug compounding field.   She was asked to serve on the NIOSH Hazardous Drug Working Group, where she was Group Leader for the Work Practices Small Group. She became a contributing author to the 2004 NIOSH Alert: Preventing Occupational Exposure to Antineoplastic and Other Hazardous Drugs in Health Care Settings. With more than 32 years’ experience, she recently served as lead author to the ASHP Guidelines on Handling Hazardous Drugs, published in June of 2006.

Luci received her BS in Pharmacy and MS in Hospital Pharmacy from Northeastern University. Starting her career in Massachusetts, Power has spent the last 28 years working in San Francisco. She has 10 years’ experience as a Pharmacy consultant for Power Enterprises and most recently worked at the University of California Medical Center – San Francisco.

She is a reviewer for the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacists, and has played an active role in her local chapters of the ASHP. At one point, she served as a Director on the Board of Directors of the California Society of Hospital Pharmacists. She is a prolific and renowned author, with many peer-reviewed publications.
