The 2012 USP <797> Compliance Study, led by sterile compounding experts and Study Co-Directors, Eric Kastango, RPh, MBA, FASHP, and Kate Douglass, MS, RN, APN,C, CRNI, opens May 1st and will remain open through June 30th. This study, first conducted in 2011, is the largest and most comprehensive study of <797> compliance ever undertaken in the United States. After this year, the study team plans to repeat the study again 1 year after the USP Expert Committee makes final the newest changes to the chapter, expected in late 2013.
We believe that the information and insights gained from this Study will be very valuable to the industry. These results assist us to benchmark our progress and to identify where additional resources and focus are required to continue to improve sterile compounding practice and patient safety. For that reason, we have committed our support to the Study and strongly encourage you to participate.
The 2012 USP <797> Compliance Study uses a sophisticated web-based <797> Gap Analysis Tool that Eric and Kate developed and have been using for the last several years. This tool is being made available at no charge to all study participants. It should be noted that ALL INDIVIDUAL FACILITY RESULTS ARE CONFIDENITAL - ONLY AGGREGATE DATA WILL BE USED IN THE STUDY REPORT.
In return for your participation, you will receive a highly detailed Action Plan that is automatically generated based on your answers to the survey. This Action Plan provides documentation that can be used to begin or continue sterile compounding practice improvements at your location. The survey takes 60 to 90 minutes to complete but does not need to be completed at one sitting. This year, the study team has also provided a pdf document of all the questions to facilitate data collection offline for those who might find this useful.
